Sound quality and design
- DACs and amplification: The M6 Ultra utilizes four AKM AK4493SEQ digital-to-analog converter (DAC) chips in a balanced, quad-DAC design, similar to some of Shanling's classic CD players. This configuration is designed to reduce interference and provide a higher output. The device uses multiple op-amps and buffers for low-noise and powerful output.
- Tuning: The sound signature is generally described as musical and warm, with a slightly emphasized mid-bass and a lush midrange. It is a return to Shanling's traditional "house sound" after some models temporarily switched to ESS DACs. Reviewers note that it pairs well with headphones that are slightly on the brighter side.
